At Scotbeef, we produce high-quality innovative primary and value added red meat products to the UK retail sector, foodservice, and export markets.

We are a family-owned business with more than 100 years of experience in supplying high-quality meat products. Our company was founded in 1920 and is now run by the 4th generation of the Galloway family.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to join our team at Scotbeef, East Kilbride.

Job Function

To ensure OTIF procurement of the best quality equipment, goods and services, within budget at the most competitive prices, to enable operational fulfilment

Main responsibilities

  • Monitor stock and accurately forecast and meet product demand – KPIs
  • Ensure identification and provision of the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
  • build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
  • negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring and ensuring continuous improvement of the quality of products and service provided
  • ensure timely and accurate processing of payments and invoices
  • forecast price trends and their impact on future activities
  • provide market analysis and identify possible growth streams
  • develop and implement the company procurement/purchasing plan
  • provide timely and regular reports to support SMT market understanding
  • evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
  • ensure suppliers are aware of business objectives to deliver Scotbeef’s business targets
  • Ensure compliance with all company and legislative requirements including but not limited to Food safety, Health & Safety
  • Maximise team performance, efficiency and service levels and drive employee engagement
  • Develop enhanced and future fit employee skillset and flexibility especially results focussed relationship fostering
  • Support trainee development to ensure the ‘next generation’ workforce

Skills required

  • PG CIPS membership preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and influencing skills
  • Results driven, with great commercial thinking (you know what a great deal looks like whilst valuing every pound)
  • Relishing challenge and variety
  • Flexible negotiation and excellent communication skills
  • Attentive to detail with some strategic ability
  • Flexible, adaptable and keen to support others’ development
  • Strong team manager, discipline and performance driver
  • Accreditation Food Hygiene equivalent at minimum level 3
  • Excellent IT and report writing skills
  • Speaking, writing and understanding excellent spoken and written English language. (This is an essential health & safety, traceability, management and quality control requirement which will be tested as part of the recruitment process)
  • Strong numeracy skills
