J W Galloway was founded in the 1920’s by James W Galloway. Initially specialising in retail butchery, the company grew to have 54 branches throughout the West of Scotland. James Galloway introduced centralised manufacturing in the 1930’s to offer consistent quality of manufactured products. By the 1960's Scotbeef had expanded to process the complete animal. Processes included Fresh, Frozen, Cannery, Curing Cellars, Cooked Meats & Bakery Products. This opened up new relationships with retailers, which Scotbeef have continued to grow and strengthen for over 50 years - and they are still going strong.
During the 1990's Scotbeef reviewed its position in the market and renewed focus on the retail sector within the UK alongside their long standing export partnerships. The change in strategy encouraged new ways of thinking and innovation which led to the development of added value and ready to roast products. This directional change soon resulted in Scotbeef becoming category leaders in Fresh Beef and Lamb products and we remain at the forefront of raw beef and lamb across the UK retail market.
